Lego games have always been the pinnacle of just having plain fun. The games were developed by Travelers Tales who has been making Lego-based games ever since their first release Lego Star Wars The Video Game. afterward, they have been cranking out Lego games for different franchises left and right. One of the franchises that managed to get the Lego treatment was none other than the Dark Night himself, Batman, in a game simply titled Lego Batman The Video Game

The storyline is very straightforward to the point as many villains in Gotham City are causing havoc and running amuck and it’s up to Batman and his sidekick Robin to save the city from each villain mastermind and their goons. That’s pretty much it, but sometimes the story doesn’t technically matter too much depending on the game as long as you have good gameplay and this game succeeds in doing so as not only do you get to play the main storyline as Batman and Robin but you also get to even play as the villains in their own side quests afterward. This new method of story gameplay is quite genius and makes this Lego game stand out from the previous ones before hand.

Batman fans will be pleased to know how much the game fully embraces its superhero origins. This is also a great introduction to newcomers as knowing previous Batman material is not required to enjoy the story. Unlike Lego Star Wars or Indiana Jones, the story is completely original and keeps true to the spirit of what makes Batman and his world so engaging.

The graphics look good for its time even though lego games have looked better before or even after. The gameplay is also great at using the abilities of Batman and Robin as they will need to use their own special abilities in order to progress through the levels. The same thing can be said for the villains as they to will need to use all their cunning and mischief to come out on top. When you complete a level you’ll have the opportunity to play it as any character or vehicle which can be helpful to go back and 100% the game. You can also purchase different items and new characters by using different color studs which you can get by randomly smashing smashable objects.

Lego Batman, The Video Game is an enjoyable playthrough that can act as a perfect introduction to Lego games and even Batman and his universe. It may feature a been there done that gameplay and it may not be the greatest achievement in Lego video games but it’s still an entertaining game non the less.
