Yoshi’s Crafted World is Freaking adorable! But more than that, it’s a darn fun time to play as our favorite Nintendo dinosaur friend. In some ways, this game could be seen as a spirited sequel to another Yoshi-centered game called Yoshi’s Wolly World. But where that came was inspired by yarn-centric visuals, this game goes for a more homemade arts and crafts kinda look in spirit to what the game seems to be promising us. Luckily for this game, it delivers on just a plain cute and fun experience that is mostly breezy to play through.
The tale begins on an island where a bunch of Yoshi’s are dancing around a shrine known as the Sundream Stone which can make anyone’s dreams come true, suddenly Kemek and Baby Bowser attempt to steal the shrine but end up flinging all the Sudream stone’s gems all over the place. Now the Yoshi’s must recover all the missing gems that lay about somewhere in the different lands of Craft World so they can restore the Sundream Stone to its former glory.
The story is very basic with only a simple end goal to reach. The game plays like a 2D platformer and there are many things to do such as collecting sunflowers which you’ll need to advance further in the story. However, I did find that backtracking can be both a fun ride but also can be a bit of a chore as well there were a couple of times where it felt tiring to try and get the right amount of flowers. There are times where you can play a level you just completed in reverse to save some puppies and earn more flowers but I kinda wished they could have changed things on the flip side of the levels just to make things even more interesting. The visuals on the other hand are very simplistic, and yet visually impressive as the game takes advantage of a world that looks like it was built by kids in an elementary school art class. Each level is unique and full of life, the amount of detail that went into making this game is beyond comprehension.
Overall, Yoshi’s Craft World is definitely worth playing for both Yoshi fans and those who like a good 2D platformer. Its short and simple story, breezy but effective gameplay, and stunning visuals make this another win for Yoshi as well as the folks at Nintendo It’s a fun time to be had and is a game I really enjoyed playing.
