There has been an uprising in 2D pixelated games in the last few years. My guess is that these games were made by people who remember the good old days of video games and wanted to honor those types of games to the modern era of gaming to spread the love of the timeless and unique graphic style of pixel graphics. Today’s game will be looking at is a 2D pixelated Halloween themed Video Game simply titled Halloween Forever which was released in 2015 and created by “Imaginary Monsters”

The story of the game sees a pumpkin man stopping an evil sorcerer from plunging the world into an endless Halloween. The plot is simple, but it gets the job done. One thing I appreciate in this game is how much Halloween it throws in your face. Everything from the graphics to the characters to the enemies are all enriched with Halloween colors and spooky imagery. It’s not gory, but it’s not too cutesy either. The color palette for each level changes which creates variety and all the enemies and bosses you meet have very distinct and fun designs.

If you’ve played classic pixelated 2D sidescrollers then the gameplay will feel very familiar to you. The basic moves are to jump and attack which may not seem like much but it is really effective once put into practice. Maneuvering across levels is very smooth and the boss levels are not too hard but also too easy to figure out. It doesn’t earn points for the most original gameplay, but it still is a tried and true formula that still holds up to the modern-day gaming standards of today.

This is overall a fun and enjoyable 2D pixelated game that has so much personality and style. It is a great game to play during the Halloween season and it is sure to bring you back to a simpler time when video games didn't have complex plots and interesting characters. What you see is what you get and Halloween Forever sure is short but intriguing game based on the best night of the year.
